Men stop here: advice for your home
Guys, I’m looking at you!
I know the last thing on your mind is what your house looks like. Most of you couldn’t care less about what hangs on your walls or adorns your bed. All most of you care about is where your TV is and if your couch is comfortable enough to endure hours and hours of endless football. But I’m here to to tell you that what your house looks like does matter.
Just like the way you dress, your house is a reflection of who you are (or at least it should be). Your home is the place you go to relax and unwind; to spend time alone or with others; entertain, rest, enjoy. And it should be a place you’re proud of too. It tells a visual story: if your home is cluttered and dirty, people will most likely see you as disorganized and careless. If your home is bare and empty, you may be viewed as someone who doesn’t have any interests or is boring. And if your home is stylish, clean and organized, you will be viewed as the ultimate man who has his life together. Trust me on this one.
If you’ve read through my blog here, you know that I’m a blogger elsewhere at Carhartts & Heels. I write about relationships, dating and anything else that strikes my fancy, appropriate or not. It’s my little soapbox but I like to think I offer some interesting perspective. You’ll have to be the judge! But what I’ve learned over my many years of being single and dating is that if I walk into a weird house….I think twice. It’s a vibe, and if I don’t feel it, I’m out. And I know a lot of other women feel the same way. It’s not that we won’t date you because your house is ugly; but it is possible that we won’t want to come back or spend time there, so that’s something to think about.
In the meantime, know one thing: women care. We care about our surroundings. We don’t want to spend time in your stinky man-cave. If you want a woman in your life (or want to make the woman in your life feel comfortable), you need to step up your decorating game. And I’m not talking flowers and pink fuzzy blankeys. I’m talking style. Man-style.
So what is your man-style? What do you love? What lights you up? How do you like to spend your time, how do you want to feel at home, what colors/textures/patterns do you find yourself drawn to? Think about it and get back to me…
Once you’ve spent more than 30 seconds thinking about what inspires you, let’s chat. I can help you bring it all together. You need a few easy, simple things that are a small monetary investment but will pay off in spades down the line (especially with the women in your life). You want your home to tell the story of who you are and I want to help you do it!
