Who are you?
While it may seem a little unconventional to think about in terms of design, knowing and understanding who you are is a critical element in creating a space that suits you. While I love popular design concepts (like farmhouse, boho and modern), I often find that these concepts are easily copied and inserted into the homes of people drawn to the aesthetic, but don’t necessarily reflect anything personal about them. For example, Instagram makes this concept very easy: influencers are paid to share their lives, whether it be fashion, food, travel or home-related. Their posts often showcase items from a retailer shown in their space, as a way to “influence” you to buy the product. Make no mistake about it: these influencers are in the business of selling, honey! All those discount codes they offer means money in their pockets. And while you may like the things they post, and may be drawn to the style, does it really resonate with who you are?
I love Instagram: it’s a great space for ideas and inspiration. But I’ve recently deleted the app on my phone as a means to get more in touch with who I am, not to watch someone else’s life and envy it. I’ve learned that separating yourself from external influences is what gets you more in touch with who you really are and what truly speaks to you. I’ve decided to find my inspiration from within.
I’ve always been a huge fan of individuality and expression and encourage all of my clients to dig deep into what really inspires them. Over the years, in the various homes that I’ve lived in, I’ve managed to collect things that mean something to me. About five years ago, my life shifted dramatically and I started to live the life that I wanted for myself, with no one else’s input. And with that freedom, I crafted a home that is a true reflection of the person that I am.
My goal at Souly Inspired Living is to help people unpack who they are and create a home that reflects them. The things they hold dearly; the colors that invigorate or inspire them; the vibe they want to feel when they walk through the door; the scents they want to smell; the ambiance in each room; these are the elements of home.
In order to illustrate my concept, I plan to introduce you to my home as well as myself. I want you to get to know me so that you can see how I am personally reflected in my home. I hope that you enjoy my tour, and thank you for coming along for the ride.
